At April and the Bear, we strive to put a focus on both international and Irish artists and have a particular fondness for those that use humour to express themselves and their talent.

Austin Lysaght is one such artist, he lives in Inchicore and is part of the Blind Elephant Illustration Collective and has a penchant for hipsters. As in hipsters have become his favourite topic, so much so Austin has created a visually stunning, bold and graphic series of art prints that revolve around Hipster life in Ireland and we LOVE each and every one of them.

In the artists own words;

I like to draw outlandish versions of the people and trends I see around Dublin. I suppose it’s a form of social commentary, although I’m not quite sure what the comment is. Dublin is the hipster gift that keeps on giving. The more ridiculous it gets as a city, the more my drawings move from satire into documentary. Or maybe mockumentary.

…I draw to have fun, and to poke fun. It’s great that people seem to like it.

The Hipster Print Series includes six graphic prints - the Beard Nest, the Hipster Scarf, Penny Farthing, Beard Explosion, Vote Yes and Extravagant Beer. Have a goo here - what do you think?

April and the Bear is an award-winning DIY/ lifestyle and interiors blog. Dublin-based interior enthusiast/ blogger and entrepreneur Siobhan Lam shares her own experiences of doing up her home in Portobello ... be warned it involves head wounds, bruised shins, fire engines and never-ending mountains of dust. Don’t let this deter you though – we want to encourage and help other not-so-handy individuals to throw caution to the wind and pick up that sledge hammer, but to do so with slightly bent knees and a hard hat firmly on your head.

April and the Bear blog attracts devoted readers from across the globe, we won 'Best Business Blog' at the Image.ie Blog Awards 2014 and were nominated for the 2014 The BOPS and The Blog Awards 2014 AND we were nominated for 'Best Online Shop' in the Irish Times Best Shops Competition 2015.
