Daniel Seex is a deadly artist. FACT. We dig his pun-packed, intensely good art and so in an effort to get to know him better — we threw some hard-hitting questions his way...

Self Portrait.

Who is your favourite artist?

I don’t know if I could pick a favourite. Love James Jean, Yuko Shimizu, Paul Blow, Jon Klaassen, Tom Gauld, Gary Taxali, Gemma Correll, David Shrigley, Tomer Hanuka, the one I’m obsessed with just now is Poorly Drawn Lines by Reza Farazmand.

What inspires you?

Deadlines

What's your go-to coffee order?

Ein kleiner brauner, bitte (Scottish Daniel lives in Austria)

Favourite 90's TV Show?

I’m a big fan of all the silly British comedies, Blackadder, The Armando Iannucci Show, Father Ted, Red Dwarf, Bottom, Spaced, etc

Go to Karaoke song?

I’ve actually only been to Karaoke bar once, I sang Money For Nothing by Dire Straits with an Austrian astrophysicist at 4 in the morning

Most intense Netflix obsession?

Did Making A Murderer recently, that was pretty intense.

Most googled person (bar yourself)?

It’s probably some cyclist I did for the book (A Year In The Saddle: 365 Stories From The World Of Cycle Sport by Giles Belbin and me, Daniel Seex, available online and all good book shops), maybe Gino Bartali or Maurice Garin, they’re both pretty fascinating guys (you can read more about Bartali and Garin in A Year In The Saddle: 365 Stories From The World Of Cycle Sport by Giles Belbin and me, Daniel Seex, available online and all good book shops)

Guilty pleasure?

Smoking in the bath.

Favourite place?

Home

Most treasured possession?

I’ve got an old beat-up guitar I’m pretty attached to and there’s a few books I can’t part with, and I’ve got a signed Yuko Shimizu print that I love, and my big wooden spoon, and my laptop, and my Scotland top, and my Hewden mug, basically I’m a monstrous hoarder.

April and the Bear is an award-winning DIY/ lifestyle and interiors blog. Dublin-based interior enthusiast/ blogger and entrepreneur Siobhan Lam shares her own experiences of doing up her home in Portobello ... be warned it involves head wounds, bruised shins, fire engines and never-ending mountains of dust. Don’t let this deter you though – we want to encourage and help other not-so-handy individuals to throw caution to the wind and pick up that sledge hammer, but to do so with slightly bent knees and a hard hat firmly on your head.

April and the Bear blog attracts devoted readers from across the globe, we won 'Best Business Blog' at the Image.ie Blog Awards 2014 and were nominated for the 2014 The BOPS and The Blog Awards 2014 AND we were nominated for 'Best Online Shop' in the Irish Times Best Shops Competition 2015.
