Our Glorious Gift Guide...

At this time of year there are about a million gift guides about the place ... 'Buy your Missus this' and 'Your fella would lose his mind over this' malarkey. We want to keep it simple here at April and the Bear so we have focused our gift guide on pieces and products that we properly adore and think you and yours will too.

For the Dog Lover - this Bassett Hound cushion (38€) from NY design company Areaware is one of our favourites, his droopy demeanour will bring an instant smile to their faces on Christmas morning. The Pug positions notebook (11€) features the hilarious scribbles of artist Gemma Correll - it makes for a terrific stocking filler.

For the Design Lover/ Home bird - Metallics are the only way to go this Winter when buying a gift for a interiors aficionado, the geometrical copper star candleholder (16€) and golden flex vase (10€) will both add a hint of glamour to any mantel. Or why not give them something marginally sensible but still utterly gorgeous? The golden magazine/book rack (23€ only available instore) has just arrived and is already selling quick - ideal for the magazine hoarder in your life! And if you really want to impress, why not give them this stunning coffee table (260€). With a copper square base and a cool white marble top - it's one delectable piece of furniture and one that will enhance and elevate any space.

For the Chocolate Lover - let's set the scene, the open fire is roaring and you and family are sitting around it dipping soft cloud-like marshmallows into runny, velvety smooth chocolate fondue whilst listening to Last Christmas by Wham. Not the worst. We provide the DELISH Fondue Set (38€ only available instore), Mr Michael the epic Christmas tunes.

For the Art Lover - what's the one thing that art lovers never have enough of and yet never really want to buy...frames of course. Do them a favour and gift them some of these fantastic easy-to-use magnetic frames (21€), clip onto your print and hang. Simple.

And what if you don't fancy any of these, which of course is entirely feasible and no my heart is not broken ( I jest of course it is) - may we suggest any or all of the following too;

One of their gigantic and gorgeous wreaths is enough to bring any Mammy to tears this Christmas. Trust me.

Their stock is as stunning and select as their pristine interior - I would highly recommend their slick collection of sunglasses for him/her or one of the softly sumptuous sweaters from YMC. Yum.

Anything and everything from this shop would make a terrific gift. I recently bought a laser cut Christmas rhyme from the lovely gals and it's already my favourite Festive Trophy of ALL time.

What to suggest from this treasure trove of gorgeousness? Oh how about EVERYTHING! However we do especially adore the baby alpaca beanies... HINT HINT.

One of the sweetest shops in Dublin, nay the world - Jen's collection at the cottage is full to the brim with lovely gifts, from hilarious mugs with bold sayings to endearing Christmas ornaments.

Any piece from this slick Irish fashion label is enough to make a gal's Christmas ... but between you and me, the sheepskin shrugs will induce instant Festive swooning.

However you do shop this Christmas try your best to shop local and independent...it makes all the difference.

Cheers and Happy Shopping!

April and the Bear is an award-winning DIY/ lifestyle and interiors blog. Dublin-based interior enthusiast/ blogger and entrepreneur Siobhan Lam shares her own experiences of doing up her home in Portobello ... be warned it involves head wounds, bruised shins, fire engines and never-ending mountains of dust. Don’t let this deter you though – we want to encourage and help other not-so-handy individuals to throw caution to the wind and pick up that sledge hammer, but to do so with slightly bent knees and a hard hat firmly on your head.

April and the Bear blog attracts devoted readers from across the globe, we won 'Best Business Blog' at the Image.ie Blog Awards 2014 and were nominated for the 2014 The BOPS and The Blog Awards 2014 AND we were nominated for 'Best Online Shop' in the Irish Times Best Shops Competition 2015.
